Information
Rukia is the main female character of Bleach. Bleach is centered around the story of how Rukia, transfered her shinigami powers to Ichigo Kurosaki in order to save him and his family from Hollows. Having stripped of her powers, Rukia was unable to return to the Soul Society, where she belongs, and had to live in the human world as a high school girl, forcing Ichigo to assist her in fighting the Hollows.
The punishment of transferring her Death God powers to a human means committing a crime punishable by death. And soon as she was making herself comfy being a human, she was captured and brought back to Soul Society by her childhood best friend Renji Abarai, and her brother in-law Byakuya Kuchiki. While she waits in the Tower of Penitence for her execution, a few of her high school friends along with Ichigo Kurosaki and a mysterious talking cat embarked on the journey from the living world to the Soul Society in order to save her.
Characteristics
Although she's decades old, Rukia Kuchiki's outward appearance is no more than perhaps 16 years old. Quite the vertically challenged individual, it was quite difficult for her to find dresses that suited her nicely, which was the source of a formidable amount of quiet grumbles. However, she makes up for that annoying inconvenience with her swiftness in battle. When not in Soul Society, she prefers to wear simple dresses that contrast with her dark hair and equally dark eyes. She keeps a strand of hair tucked neatly between her eyes at ALL times
Rukia is a workaholic -- she's the type to babble about work and is very strict with her own expectations. She hardly ever really smiles and typically remains quiet; although admittingly she has her loud outbursts. She's extremely obediant and speaks in an old-fashion type of way, due to the fact that she comes from a Fuedal Era world and is rather oblivious of most things modern. Rukia has a streak of a fiery temper that can easily bet set off and would sometimes deal with things with her fist if she's frustrated enough.
Rukia is also stubborn and strong-willed, and her job is to protect. She takes her duty as a shinigami (death god) seriously, and takes it upon herself to save those that are threatened to what seems to be their enemies -- hollows. She has a compassionate side when needed; if bluntness doesn't work, anyway. Although Rukia comes off as an emotionally strong character, she's filled with much guilt and insecurities -- the fact that she's mostly unwanted in the Kuchiki Household, the fact that she was responsible for the death of her previous vice-captain, Kaien Shiba, and the fact that she was forced to change a 15 year-old's life upside down all weigh heavily on her shoulders.
One amusing trait about Rukia is that she's an aspiring actress. Sort of. She feigns innocence and adorableness to charm all the people she was forced to go to school wth, and the thing is? It worked. And that pissed Ichigo off. She's a lover of rabbits especially (one of the times she'll spazz and squee) and loves anything bunny-themed. She also loves to draw pictures which manily involve rabbits but sucks at it rather badly.
Rukia is one of those individuals who are not able to properly express themselves, especially when it comes to emotions and the like; a trait which, unfortunately, would probably never be remedied in the near future.
Abilities
Rukia, who is a 13th Division Shinigami, possesses a zanpaktou like every other Shinigami; however, her greatest strength lies in the knowledge of the demon arts - kidou - and her known skills are for binding, purifying, and destruction. Even when she's in her gigai form, Rukia is able to use those spells at a limited level. Her spells matched Renji's in power when he was in spirit form during the Bount Arc.
After the events that happened in Soul Society, Rukia's Shinigami powers have already made an almost complete recovery, and is capable of executing the shikai of her zanpaktou, Sode no Shirayuki, one of the most beautiful zanpaktou within Soul Society itself. Rukia's zanpaktou possesses more than one ability, although what the others are are not yet revealed.
The sword itself is completely white, including the hilt, the crossguard, and the blade, and the command phrase for its shikai is 'Mae!' or 'Dance!'. With that command, the blade turns white and a white ribbon forms at the hilt. With the phrase "Beginning Dance, White Moon" or rather "some no mai, tsukishiro", Rukia creates a sphere of influence and freezes everything within the sphere from the ground upwards until it reaches the sky. The command, "Following Dance, White Ripple" has the ability to enclose an oppnent and everything that's connected to it in a shell of ice immediately.
History
A long time ago, Rukia was a living human being until she and her sister Hisana died in the living world and were sent to Soul Society. Rukia was merely an infant; while Hisana was either at her teens or over, and scared and knowing that she was unable to take care of her little sister, Rukia was abandoned at one of the worst districts of Soul Society--Rokungai 78. There, as she grew older, she was forced to live on her own and surive by herself, until she once helped Renji Abarai in getting supplies for him and other children. Rukia found a home then and was the 'mother' figure amongst the children, often protecting and helping them. Eventually they all died out, and Renji and Rukia, both having spiritual powers, decided to become shinigami at the Shinigami Academy within Seireitei.
Although Renji excelled above Rukia when it came to being a shinigami, Rukia didn't even have to graduate the school to become one. She was adopted by one of the four noble families -- the Kuchiki, and was fed the lie that she was only adopted because she resembled Byakuya's deceased wife; Hisana Kuchiki. It was then later revealed to her that Hisana was actually her sister, and that the reason Byakuya took her in was to fulfill a promise to Hisana in her deathbed.
Rukia was assigned to be in division 13th; where she was pretty much unwelcomed. But the captain was nice, and so was her vice-captain, Kaien Shiba, whom she looked up as a father/brother figure. Unofortunately, Kaien's wife had been killed by a hollow and he took the responsibility to get revenge. Everything went wrong and Kaien was overcome by the hollow, and Rukia was forced to pierce him with her zanpakutou, ultimately killing him. That's the biggest guilt she has on her shoulders, and it's something she'd never forget.
After that, Rukia continued her duty as a shinigami very strictly, and eventually came across a boy of the name Ichigo Kurosaki's room while tracing a hollow spirit level. Ignoring Ichigo's remarks she is abruptly kicked up the rear end. Amazed that Ichigo can actually see her and even touch her she took the time to explain to him who she is and what she does. Suddenly feeling the tremendous force of a Hollow's Spiritual energy she didn't understand why she didn't feel it earlier. Before she knew it Ichigo had ran outside the fight the beast and try and defend his family. Rukia had to step in but recklessly she suffered a major wound protecting him. Telling Ichigo to become a Soul Reaper she intended to give Ichigo only half of her power but was completely absorbed of all of it leaving her no longer with Soul Reaper powers. With the Hollow now slain and Rukia left powerless, Kisuke the former Soul Reaper Captain and owner of a Soul Reaper shop chipped in and gave Rukia and Gigai to use until her powers came back. But what she didn't know is that Kisuke gave Rukia a Gigai which drains Rukia of energy instead of restoring it hoping the bury the Ord Of Distortion within her and permanantly turn her into a human. That's where all the fun started.
