Information
Orihime Inoue is a main character in the Bleach series. Orihime is a classmate of Ichigo (upon which she has a large crush on ^_^), closely linked to him by mutual friend Tatsuki Arisawa. She is effectively an orphan, as she and her elder brother Sora ran away from their abusive home at a young age, and her brother later died. Though initially devoid of spiritual powers, she begins to develop spiritual awareness and later possesses some of the most powerful healing abilities in the Bleach universe, able to completely restore a body to its previous state regardless of how severely it is wounded.

Characteristics

Appearance

Standing at a little over five feet tall, Orihime is generally a thin girl. In fact, the only part of her that can really count as big would be her chest. Once you get past the bust (a feat some never manage to accomplish), she's the sort who can almost always be seen with a smile on her face and a cheerful glimmer in her gray eyes. She sports a head of vibrant chestnut colored hair that hangs down to the small of her back, usually left hanging loose. Never is she seen without a pair of rather lovely blue hairpins, each shaped like a six-petaled flower.

When it comes to fashion, Orihime can usually be seen in her school uniform. White collared blouse, tucked into a gray pleated skirt; a red bow tied around her neck with a golden clasp at the center. Outside of school, she generally wears longer skirts or a pair of casual cloth pants along with a fitted top, mostly in brighter colors. She's got quite the soft spot for flower-print, too.

Personality

Orihime is a bouncy (speaking figuratively here), cheerful sort of girl. She makes friends easily, and cares very deeply for them. Honestly, she doesn't have a malicious bone in her body. Even when it comes to enemies. It's difficult for her to see anyone hurt at all, even moreso for her to do it herself.

She tends to come off as a bit of air head , especially when she goes off deep into one of her many day dreams leaving her mouth wide open, but the truth is her grades are actually amongst the highest in her grade. Also, she's very sensitive to the feelings of others, and would gladly help someone in need if she thought she could. Particularly in the case of those closest to her, she'd do most anything to keep them happy. Even if it pains her to do so.

Orihime can be quite the charmer, garnering friends and admirers most anywhere she goes. Her compassionate nature makes her a very difficult person to hate. That isn't to say there isn't a bad side. While her kind personality is most certainly a virtue, it also renders her virtually useless on the battlefield. She simply doesn't want to see anyone get hurt. Even if she wanted to, she just can't muster the true intent to kill her opponents. Without it, Tsubaki's attacks are rendered virtually useless most of the time. Even so, she shows an almost surprising resolve to remain by her friends' sides as they fight and help them in any way she can.

Her giving nature is also a bit of a double-edged sword, so far as she's concerned. (Particularly when it comes to Ichigo.) While she's simply happy to see everyone being the happiest they can be, she is still suspect to feelings such as anger, jealousy -- all typical feelings, but Orihime hates herself when she starts thinking in such a way. Even if she tries her hardest to hide it, times like those often leave her in a self-doubting funk.

Orihime loves food, and is willing to try most any food, be it normal or not. When it comes to her own cooking, she usually goes for the 'not' option. Most have long since learned not to dare try anything she might offer them.

Abilities

Shun Shun Rikka

Orihime's power comes from her six petaled flower shaped hair clips called Shun Shun Rikka, in the form of six fairies. When their names are called, along with the name of the technique, and the phrase "I reject" (a reference to the nature of her powers) they and their own respective abilities are called upon to aid her when she's in need of it

Hinagiku, Baigon, and Lily, who can form a shield with which to protect her from outside attacks. (Santen Kesshun.)

Shun'o and Ayame, capable of healing whomever Orihime sets her sights on by forming their own sort of shield around them, no matter how badly the target may be injured. The force field can restore anything to full working order by reversing space and time around the damaged area, making it as if the object was never damaged in the first place. It can even reverse death. The technique takes longer for more serious injuries, and large amounts of spiritual pressure also make healing more difficult. Aizen himself thinks of it as event rejection - Inoue can limit, reject, and deny events so that she can return things to a previous state. It is a power that violates God’s domain. Due to this power Aizen sent Ulquiorra to kidnap Orihime. At first it was believed the technique required that Orihime have some piece of what she is healing to restore what's missing. She was unable to heal Tsubaki after his destruction because he was shattered into pieces too small to find. However, it has been suggested by Hachigen Ushouda, a vizard with similar powers, that Orihime should be able to restore anything she wants without actually having a piece of it. (Soten Kisshun.)

Tsubaki, her sole offensive attack. He forms a shield within the enemy itself, literally splitting it in half. This, however, relies on Orihime's intent to kill the target. (Koten Zanshun.)

(Also, thanks to Tatsuki, her karate level is about equivalent to that of a black belt. Yeouch.)

History

Early Life

Inoue Orihime grew up in Karakura Town with her older brother, Sora, away from their abusive parents. Though they struggled at first, it wasn’t long before they were living a happy life in their own home. Despite her brother working constantly to support the two, Orihime beheld him with the utmost admiration and affection. The pair lived in harmony for many years, Sora working, Orihime attending school, and both contributing to their small family unit.

But all good things must come to an end. Six years later, while she was still quite young, her brother was involved in a car accident that claimed his life. Though she mourned the loss of her only true family, Orihime honored his memory everyday by erecting a small shrine for him in her home and wearing the hairpins (later the Shun Shun Rikka) he had bought her.

Not long after her Sora’s death, Orihime met Arisawa Tatsuki, a brazen tomboy. Constantly being teased for her long hair, Orihime and Tatsuki soon formed their own family: Tatsuki was the protector, while Orihime was the maternal, albeit goofy figure. Before long, the two became the closest of friends and spent much of their time together.

Summary

Orihime’s social life had suddenly grown , she had less and less time to pray for her late brother because of this he returned when she was fifteen – as a Hollow. Consequently, this was Orihime's first introduction to the world of Shinigami's and their enemies. Her brother’s Hollow, overcome with rage, attacked Orihime and Tatsuki. Luckily, a shinigami representative was surveying Karakura at the time. After Sora's monstrous reincarnation was vanquished and his soul freed by Orihime’s classmate, Kurosaki Ichigo, she developed a close bond with him and Kuchiki Rukia. She later accompanied Ichigo (as well as Yasutora "Chad" Sado, Ishida Uryuu and Shihouin Yoruichi) to Soul Society to rescue Rukia from execution.

Upon returning to the Living World (anime filler episodes excluded), Orihime wished to further develop her power. Feelings of remorse filled her after her venture into Soul Society, and she was completely overcome with doubt in her abilities. Orihime’s contrition was confirmed in following battles with Arrancar, where she often found herself unable to protect her friends. Despite the progression of her healing abilities, she was still hounded by regret – after all, she wouldn’t have to heal her friends if she could only stop them from getting hurt.

Despite the progression of her healing abilities, she was still hounded by regret – after all, she wouldn’t have to heal her friends if she could only stop them from getting hurt.

It was during this time, as well, that she realized her love for Kurosaki Ichigo, and her guilt intensified over her jealousy of Kuchiki Rukia. However, while Ichigo spent much of his time training with the Vaizored (and Chad and Ishida were undergoing similar regimens), the unprotected Orihime was targeted by Aizen for her “special powers”. It was not long after this that she was kidnapped and brought to Hueco Mundo by Ulquiorra Schiffer, emissary of the Espada.

She quickly learned that her powers were unique: she did not merely have the ability to heal, but to reverse entire situations. While Aizen mused with the thought of manipulating this power to his will, Orihime silently resolved to do the exact opposite: she would send the Hougyoku back into nothingness.

For the past year, Hueco Mundo is where Orihime has stayed “comfortably” prisoner. Despite wanting nothing more than a world at peace, Orihime is constantly forced into mentally and physically pressuring situations; many of the male Arrancar see her as a pet, while many of the female Arrancar ignore or ostracize her for her “close relationship” with Aizen. As such, she has become quite familiar with Las Noches and its inhabitants, probably more so than she would like. Six months after her internment, she abandoned the thought of rescue: multiple Espada had reported the deaths of her friends. Overcome with grief at the supposed loss of her companions’ lives, she fell into depression and occasionally lapsed back into such bouts. Though, in spite of her despair, Orihime’s plight only served to fuel her determination.

Despite undergoing much strife and hardship, Orihime continues to strive for hope and has vowed to erase the Hougyoku in her friends’ names – even if it means destroying herself in the process.
