Ichigo Kurosaki is the main character and hero of Bleach. Ichigo is a 15 year old high school student and due to his high spirtual power, he is able to see and communicate with ghosts. He has had this ability it for a really long time for as long as he can remember, and has learned to completely ignore these ghost / spiritual sightings. Ichigo has orange/strawberry hair and dark brown eyes. He is usual found keeping his eyebrows constantly in a frown. Ichigo is forced to become a substitute shinigami after unwittingly absorbing all of Rukia's powers. His cynical nature at first makes him ill-disposed towards the duty, but with the passage of time he comes to accept and welcome it, recognizing that even if he is not able to save everyone, he can at least use his skills to protect those close to him. Later, when Ichigo loses his powers as a substitute, he chooses to risk death in an attempt to become a full-fledged shinigami.

Rukia Kuchiki is a Shinigami and the main female character in Bleach. Even Though she may look like a teenage girl, she is actually over a hundred years old. She was sent to hunt a hollow in Ichigo Kurosaki's hometown. Due to injury, Rukia had to transfer her powers to Ichigo which left her powerless. Ichigo was force to take over her job and protect his town from hollows. Rukia decides to stick around and begins to coach Ichigo on how to defeat Hollows. Rukia becomes very attached to the Human world, and develops feelings for Ichigo. Eventually, she is captured by her brother, Byakuya and Best Friend Renji, to pay the penalty for the crime she committed ( giving her powers to a Human ) which is death. Ichigo and few of his highschool friends embark on a journey to save her.

Orihime has long orange brown hair which she wears with hairpins (they were a gift from her older brother Sora before he died.) but perhaps the best identifying feature of Orihime is simply her larger than life breast. She is a student at Karakura High School and a classmate of Ichigo, which she obviously has huge crush on. Orihime at first seems to be your stereotypical ditz; she constantly stares out into space (and leaves her mouth hanging open when she does), but at second glance, you can see the inconsistencies of her character. Because as much as she zones out or is flighty, she consistently scores top marks in her class. Her and Ichigo are class mates Though initially devoid of spiritual powers, she begins to develop spiritual awareness and later possesses some of the most powerful healing and defensive abilities in the Bleach universe.

Though on the surface Uryu seems nothing more than a solitary class cool genius, he is actually one of the last remaining Quincy - a race of priest-like human archers who made it their goal to eliminate all Hollows. The Shinigami opposed the Quincies, as the destruction of so many Hollows unbalanced the natural cycle between the realms. Uryu bears a deep grudge against all shinigami, including Ichigo, but over time he and Ichigo eventually become allies and friendly rivals.

Yasutora Sado, better known as Chad, is a a brown-haired 15-year old teenager of Mexican descent living in Japan. He attends the same school as Ichigo's and has become very good friends with each other and have each others back in tough times even if it means death. Chad is extremely tall and looks much older than he really is. He also seems very intimidating because of his size and massive strength, however, he is a very kind a gentle person and refuses to fight unless it is for the sake of another. He does not have any awareness of ghosts at first, but when he witnesses a group of children being attacked by a hollow he discovers a unique ability which which manifests as armor on his right arm called the Brazo Derecha de Gigante.
