Default PC - your opninion & improvements - 06-03-2008

Well, a friend asked me to put a new PC for him together. *except for the harddrive and DVD drive* he wanted a fast and longliving PC. So i said no problem.
well i know that the Motherboard, CPU and RAM will work together just fine. perfect for overclocking. The Chassi has a 25 Centimeter Fan on the side so i decided to pump the Cores heat with the Zerotherm CF900 directly out.

but still i wanna make sure everything will work fine together so, if someone has some specific information about the Graphics Card, CPU Cooler and the Power Supply which lead me to the conclusion to choose some other parts for it then just spit it out xD

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 38
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 4x2.4GHz TRAY
CPU Cooler: ZEROtherm CF900 LGA775
RAM: 2048MB Corsair PC2-1066 DHX Dominator CL5 KIT
Graphics Card: EVGA (Retail) 9600GT SSC Edition 512MB 2xDVI/TV
Power Supply: 650W be quiet! Straight Power
Chassis: AeroCool AeroEngine Plus Black o.NT.

The system will Cost around 700 €

1st: off topic
2rd: Floppy drive WTF ?????
3th: Q9300 is nice but get at least the Q9450 *trust me, i made the mistake*
4th: u dont need 4 gig ram *at least not yet* 2 gig highperformance (1066+) ram is more usefull
5th: 520 Watt is way to weak. no space for overclocking, especially the GTX eats away the watt
6th: No 512 MB Ram GCards for high performance PC's anymore!!!!!!!

edit:damn the prices are damn high in dollar Oo
edit edit: my ram *which i would put into the computer* costs 180 dollars O.O in germany is costs 70 € thats even more then doubled O.o

I see I see but its not that expensive because to get a computer like that normal price would be way over $3000 o.o its just this shop has really cheap stuff.. like the 4 gig ram is a couple hundred dollars

trust me on the Power Supply and RAM. u need more power but less ram with more power! but more power is neccesary if you want him to be overclocked later.

u should get 3 gigs ram...cos when u get 4 gigs u have to start using 64 bit vista...which isnt all that good...and I have 700 watts..which is quite an overkill but for overclocking its oke :P I dunno exactly whats in my pc I always forget lol :P

NVIDIA 8800 GTS 512 Mb
22" Samsung 226CW
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R
some extra cooler
Intel Core 2 duo E6750 I believe...
Raptor!! 72 gigs..
Zalman 700 Watt..

well Im not that much of a computergeek, my bro helped me customize my pc

and a better power supply 650 watt or 750 watt and yes 1066+ ddr2 ram 2gig
kingston has a 1200 DDR2 Ram which is kompatible with the gigabyte boards. damn fast O.O
but the 1066 corsair dominator is still a good choice.

@cody: why the hell 3gig ?? u loose the dual channel power Oo 2gigs are still enough. i cant get my RAM full. 1,37 of my ram are used while playing crysis. using 3 gig on 3ports .... omg .... if u need more then 2 gig then get vista and go for the 4gig double dual channel. thats more effeciant.
ah and by the way. 700 watt without quad core ?? Oo hmm if you would have tripple sli or crossfire i would understand but without Oo 550 watt should have been enough for ya system and 650 for overclocking to the max.

edit: wanna know whats inside. Run: dxdiag

Might I suggest a larger power supply? If you have a quad and plan to be overclocking, 650 ain't gonna cut it at all.

I just recently built a desktop a week ago and I got a 950 for my quad along with the same memory you have. I honestly can't really even hear it unless the room is dead silent. If you're interested I got a PSU ROSEWILL|RX950-S-B RT, it's a bit pricy but well worth it.

The GPU and Motherboard seem pretty damn good, I went with a VGA EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR 8800GT 512M GPU and a ASUS P5K PRO ATX Intel Motherboard .

Other than that your computer should be 'teh epic pwnz'

If ya have any questions feel free to ask

Graphics card: Check out ATI's offerings. They are doing really well right now, and as much as people are talking about the 512mb of memory for a GPU, that's more than enough for a non-highend graphics card. more memory is mostly for higher resolutions and mainstream graphics isn't about going for the 1080p. The 9600GT is good, but I'd probably still look into it's ATI counterpart and check the benchmarks.

RAM: I'd either make the jump to DDR3, or get 4+gb of DDR2. The jump to DDR3 makes sense because DDR2 will phase out and become hard to find and more expensive by probably Q1 of next year, and if you must go with DDR2, the 4gb would assure that you'd have enough when RAM usage goes up. We're on the limits of 2 gbs right now and 4 is where we're headed.

CPU: The only problem here is that Intel is about to release a new chip, on a new socket type. This may or may not be a bit deal, but it's something to consider when buying a new computer so close to the change over.

Power Supply: Probably ample power though more couldn't hurt, and I don't know anything about that brand. Antec has never failed me, and I'm running a Kingwin now that I really like. Brand can be important in a powersupply, but if it's SLI certified, then you're probably ok. (Not that you'd be using SLI, but if it can stand up to SLI certification it's at least got some reference of credibility).
