Default Anyone an ipod expert - 04-07-2008

My dad has an old ipod that doesnt work or so he says. I want to use it in my car with the this kit that allows you to use a ipod in conjunction with the stock stereo controls. Well I finally found it and tried to plug it in to my computer.... nothing happened it didnt turn on or attempt to charge/connect. So then I tried to plug it into the wall charger. All it does is flash the apple logo and a pic of a folder with a caution sign in the left corner of the folder. Not sure but my guess is that it is broken or the hdd is corrupt. It is one of the old skool 15gb hard drive gen 1or 2 styles. any idea on how i can fix it are welcomed.

Ok there are a couple of things you can do here:

--Try a new connector cord.
--Use the iPod utility to reformat/fix the iPod
--Update the iPod's firmware
--if the iPod utility cannot reformat the drive you can use windows to reformat your iPod

see if that works...

If it is showing up as "unknown device" on your device manager that just means that the device is not recognized (prob already knew that) HOWEVER, that just means that you need something to "introduce" your computer to your iPod (hence the software) so if you install the device drivers it might work.....sorry if it doesn't work just wanna help

yea it has something to do with the logic board, port connection, or hard drive. The drivers should be installed already (come with XP), or atleast when you install itunes.

I actually had this problem a few months ago. All you need to do is replace the cord. If it still doesn't work, you can render that kit useless for your model.

here is what you should do throw the ipod in the garbage and get a new one problem solved!!!!!!............... hahahahaha just kidding what you should do is reboot your ipod if it hasn't helped then it is probably not the software's problem but actually the hardware's problem if it is the hardware's problem go to the app's store or fido or something and get it fixed up

its because its frozen in the boot you have to plug it in to the wall then hold the menu botten for about 30 seconds for it to do a manual reboot
that might fix it.
