My friends parents are buying a new tv and they want to know whether to get a LCD or Plasma
whats better?

this friend of mine just moved here and is esl
no other friend than me
so ya, dont say they're total idiots

Both LCD and Plasma make a great TV but the lighting in your room and how close you sit to the TV are what really makes the difference.....(got that from the future shop commercial)

I'd say go with plasma if you got the cash I think it's much better than LCD

and what exactly is plasma?

It's basically lots and lots of little cells filled with gas, placed between two plates of glass. A chip in the display tells what voltage to run through each cell, and causes the gas to emit light. That's the quickie version...

Plasma is definitely clearer and nicer, but in my opinion not enough to justify the risk. Plasma is expensive, and one firm tap has the potential to break the display, rendering it useless. New TV time. LCD is almost as good, is less-costly, and will last longer. Then you only have to worry about dead pixels...
