Exclamation Google to launch operating system - Jul. 9th, 2009, 12:29 PM

Needless to say, i'm going to get my hands on this one when it comes out in 2010. I am getting sick and tired of Windows OS and Mac is too complicated for seasoned Windows users like myself. I sincerely hope Google owns Windows and Mac.

Story

Google is developing an operating system (OS) for personal computers, in a direct challenge to market leader Microsoft and its Windows system.
Google Chrome OS will be aimed initially at small, low-cost netbooks, but will eventually be used on PCs as well.
Google said netbooks with Chrome OS could be on sale by the middle of 2010.
"Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS," the firm said in its official blog.
The operating system, which will run on an open source licence, was a "natural extension" of its Chrome browser, the firm said.
The news comes just months before Microsoft launches the latest version of its operating system, called Windows 7.

It is not for a Desktop or a Laptop that relies heavily on applications. It's more for NetBooks. So, Microsoft and Apple do not have to worry about having to compete with the Desktop and Laptops. However, it seems that Google wants to control like everything. _-" It's turning into Microsoft as Microsoft wanting to control everything... But, the only good thing about Google OS will be that it will be Open Source and I heard it will be free as well. Plus, they are teaming up with like HP to have their OS on the netbooks.

Also, I have heard that Microsoft are having a press conferences soon.... We will have to see what goes on...

I personally would give it a shot if they brought it to desktop use. I love Google's software. I use Chrome as my main browser and I have also tinkered with the Android OS for smartphones. Google just seems to make excellent software with little flaws.

Well i read about it too.Sounds awesome to me I am definitely gonna try in on my netbook when they'll release it.Google Chrome as a browser wasn't really special but it's good...and i think google will do a good job working on an OS.I think i also read it's gonna be linux based OS so...yeah it's gonna be gooooood :P

And yeah u can always try linux on your PC if u are sick of windows.I use linux. They're plain awesome. The only prob is compatibility.Sometimes it wont use some of the hardware but i didn't have any problem like that. Also u wont be able to use some windows applications. But there are some linux applications that are as good as the windows ones. The only one i am sad i lost is photoshop.GIMP sucks. But the text editor KATE is plain awesome!!And there is this program Wine which is supposed to run windows applications on linux platforms but will only run original versions...so forget about cracked programs.Thats the only disadvantage of linux.Other than that they're cool. And u can always have both Windows and Linux on your PC but that requires partitioning your HDD which i don't like....

thnx zB for the awesome sig!!

Well, I don't know about what hardware the OS will support. However, it would be better to run it as a Virtual OS with VMWare or some other program to know how your netbook can handle. I don't think you would want to install it and then figure out that it doesn't work or works properly. ^^" Considering from Google, I am sure they will probably have like a defined minimum and anything below that won't work as they did similar with Android OS.
