I felt like having an actual discussion on current events in this anime...

IOW: I want to hear other's people's opinion...

Like, we all know that shinigami-sama is hidding something, but why is he hidding it?

I mean, really why would he have a reason to hide something from even his own son?

Is it some test to see how good his son's is at investigating, or is it some dark secret that he fears will turn them all against him?

Or is he still keeping something dormant in the school, and doesn't want the information to leak?

I have many theories but I want to hear yours...

I think it can be anything. There are a lot of things we don't know about the Reaper. I think he is good at heart now. But in the past, who knows? Then he had no responsibilities, no nothing. Now he has a son and a whole damn city. My best bet is he is trying to make some past mistake right.

Well right now he is hiding the reason why he is collecting all the Demon Artifacts, some are obviously for a combat purpose, like defeating Arachne and Kishin, but there is more to it.

We know this:
- Eibon was a genious and he made most of them.
- Shinigami was once befriended with Eibon
- They even made some of the weapons together
- Shinigami was a bad ass hunter most likely with some evil character, when it came down to fullfilling the "hunt" (you know like imprisioning some dude in his own skin etc.)
- Now Shinigami is some weird guy with some secrets but SEEMS to have a really good core
- And it looks like he has a very good understanding of the situation and power levels since he doenst really seem troubled by the fact that they have to defeat kishin and arachne at the same time while Medusa could just backstab him any moment.
- oh and he really was a bad ass hunter :-)

I think the secret has something to do with Eibon being a potential danger because of something that has happened between those 2.

But why can't shinigami leave shibusen now that the kinshin is gone?

For what we know now is, that he used a method to surpress Kishins Madness that force him to stay in Shibusen that was so grave, that he still can not leave the city.

What i am wondering is, why couldnt he just kill him? Why did he need to take such measures?
Is this the reason he founded Death City and the Weapon/Meister System, because he couldnt leave the city anymore?
Or is it a reason we still dont know? Maybe thats why he needs the demon tools

I don't think that is the case. In the episode where Maka and the others fought that Mosquito guy, we saw the that the Reaper went to the tower flying and then just before the fight, they saw Eibon, walking towards it. I think Eibon was Reaper's partner in crime. This was further noted in the different hand writings in the Demon train, discovered by Kid. Reaper wants to hide his past related to Eibon for some reason. And thats the reason which we can't seem to figure out.

Well they did refer to Eibon as a sorcerer didn't they? So wouldn't that mean that he is in league with the witches?
