One Piece Characters and their importance to the storyline [spoilers beware]

Let's face it, One Piece is just one of those anime with loads and loads of characters, but sometimes I think Oda (is that the name of One Piece's creator) needs to remind followers One Piece why some of these characters are powerful. First example, Mihawk. He is supposed to be the no. 1 swordsman in the OP universe but the last time he's done anything remotely cool was when he fought Zoro and that quite episode 20 something! Then there's Smoker who when introduced in the logue town arc we haven't seen much reminders why he is a bad-assed marine commander or whatever rank he is. Then there is Tashgi, poor Tashigi who fate hasn't been kind on, while introduced as a competent swordsman hasn't won a single victory yet losing to Zoro and getting pawned by Robin. In fact those two seem to be like janitors following after the Strawhat crew just cleaning up and dealing with the aftermath situations left by Luffy and co. Shanks isn't so bad, the last time we were reminded of how strong he was one he met with Whitebeard and fought him to a stalemate and while that was one arc away at least its fairly recent as far as OP characters go. What are some of your opinions??

I completely agree, especially with Mihawk, the last we saw him was in chapter 25-30 or something, and now there are 500 chapters, if he is the strongest swordsman, he should have a bigger role in the anime/manga, I know there are many hundreds of characters, and 500 chapters are not enough to introduce all of them, but still, its gotten out of hand, its like Oda is just letting us on a cliff on purpose when it comes to the information on some characters.

I think Smoker is going to get more screen time next year, because he said he was after Luffy, and he has lots of opportunities to actually get an order to follow him, while Mihawk said he wants to meet Zoro if he survives his attack, we probably wont see him for a while, maybe not until Zoro is ready to fight him.

They said that Mihawk is hard to find, that no one knows where he is, and that he doesnt appear often, but Oda is just overexaggerating the whole thing xD Tashigi can go to hell. And you forgot two more characters, Cody and the other guy, I thought in the beginning that they will never get screen time anymore, but they did in the Water arc, so hopefully we get to see them soon as well.

Not to mention Whitebeard and Blackbeard, the last time we saw them was when Ace got pwned by Blackbeard. Oh I forgot, we will get too see Ace soon now that Luffy is going to rescue him!

We know that they are pirates, so they are never in the same place, and since the main characters are in the same ship, there is no need for the others to get screen time, unless they are fighting the Strawhat crew or if they join them...

Thats why we dont see that much from Shanks as well.

Wel, finally they have shown Mihawk in the manga and many others like Smoker, maybe Oda read this thread or something..?
