Another classic anime is being turned into a live action movie: Ninja Scroll!

Now, I"ve said before that I'm a proponent of live action versions of anime, for the most part. I think that any way you can build interest and awareness to something with a cult following, it's a good thing (i.e. comic book movies that don't suck). But Ninja Scroll?

Ninja Scroll is one of the most violent and brutal anime movies in history. It's also a classic (it was on my list of "10 anime every one should see" on these forums). But there's no way they can turn this into a live action movie and do it justice. I'm ok with stuff like Cowboy Bebop, but this one could be a disaster that pissess off anime fans. The good news is the screen-writer, Alex Tse, is the same guy who wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Watchmen movie. Although I've heard the Watchmen script isn't "great," it's good to hire a guy that has experinece turning something classic into a live action film. I don't even wanna speculate on casting at this point.

If done correctly, it could be cool. Jubei Kibagami was actually a real samurai long ago. I just hope Hollywood isn't doing the film. I would rather see a Japanese foreign film of this. Hollywood would just royally ruin the movie.

Warner Brothers is Hollywood.

But they apperantly are pretty good in making Drawn figures to real films, as seen in the Dark Knight.
Anyone noticed how brutal and crazy Joker is in this film? I dont think they will mess up Ninja Scroll

Dark Knight was great, but that's because it had a visionary director and a huge budget that allowed them to create a truly terroristic villain without showing too much violence (very little actual blood in that movie... most of Joker's stuff was explosions and mayhem). To get Ninja Scroll right, there's gonna have to be blood. Like, a lot. I don't want these sword fights to be like Prince Caspian, where people are stabbed (and even decapitated) but the sword never has any red on it.

I'm just skeptical, personally. When they hire a director and start casting it, maybe my perspective will change.

Dude, they're going to need water towers of blood for that movie. It literally rained blood when Jubei cut all those ninja mofos up. Hopefully they've got a good goats blood hook up lol.
