What is your favorite non-shounen anime?

I think we all like a**kickery here, just looking at the vibrant bleach and naruto forums. There are few things better than seeing a samurai getting ready to slice through some impudent mofos. But what is your favorite non-action oriented anime? Is it Death Note, or something else?

For me, it'd have to be Detective Conan. Sure, the episodes are incredibly formulaic but each one is fascinating. For movies, I thought Spirited Away was awesome, with Grave of the Fireflies as a close second.

Death note and hell girl were pretty good IMO but I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting right now

Well if it is that i cant be Shōnen i say... Nodame Cantabile.. it is Josei.. Are not so many other anime that is not Shōnen.. its is one of the biggest emographic genres Shōnen..

But if it can be Shōnen but not to much action in it then.. Ichigo 100%

since i only get the 'non-action- part then i'll go for 'Ouran High School Host Club' and 'Mushishi'...

I would have to say death note....but i also love the classics like Pokemon oh and perhaps sailor moon...i don't believe that was too action oriented. Also, Yu-Gi-Oh was awesome as well.

ah..didnt you know yu-gi-oh becoming real...really its real i seen it in e3 fair.playing micro card game pockets and a screen illusion..playing with ps3...

there are a ton of great non-action anime. I actually prefer non-Shonen (shonen is too cliche and they all feel the same). Monster immediately comes to mind. As does The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Comedies like Cromartie High, School Rumble, Ouran, etc. Kino's Journey and Ergo Proxy are also great. There are so many, it's impossible to list them all.
