I would have to say Rurouni Kenshin the OAV (I believe it's titled Samurai X instead though, but is the actual story of Kenshin's past). It's the only anime I've went back to and watched more than once. It's also only 4 episodes long not including the later added Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen part 1 and 2.
If any of you has never seen it I recommend checking it out. It is I admit a bit more slow paced but is probably the only anime I've seen so far that plays like a Kurosawa film. It's a character study of Kenshin if anything and the rain of blood that is "almost" excessively shown in the few clips where violence erupts, help to accentuate his proficiency as a swordsman and also his deteriorating resolve to kill; as someone who has lost his humanity and is regaining it. I won't spoil it any further than to give a background, but definitely check it out if you've only seen Rurouni Kenshin and not the original OAV. Saitoh as shinsengumi is so AWESOME!
