I would have agreed with that but what about Itachi? His sharingan was activated before he killed of the Uchiha clan. He used it to kill them, didn't he? If anything is relvant, i think its dedication or aggression that activates the sharingan (i'm leaning towards dedication). For instance there have been a lot of instances where dedication has lead to new powers like Naruto is the prime example and others include Sakura.

For all we know Itachi may have tried to save someone from an unknown mission and got it that way. Just putting it out there.D:

well it's a nice thought.Like Verg said..it's not protecting someone...it's just the feeling pf that act.i mean cuz they were protecting someone they had to do their best and so the sharingan awakened

well kakashi's is different in appearance & function as his MS cant stop time only transfer things from 1 dimension 2 another so maybe he unlocked only 1 function of MS through training and this is why he didnt need 2 kill his friend cus maybe it was only a partial release

& madera always has his sharingan active so maybe they cant turn off after they've been transferred

When looking at kakashi, it seems as there doesnt need to be someone close to you dying.

Its probably more like there needs to be a certain feeling inside of the sharingan user to awaken the mangekyou.

From the way Madara told his story to Sasuke, it is pretty unclear to from where they have their knowledge about the mangekyou sharingan.

He was forced to kill his brother to awaken the mangekyou, but how did they know about it in the first place?

And to your theory, Sasuke awakened his sharingan as he wanted to protect Naruto while fighting Haku. But then his brother died and he awakened mangekyou

this is my theory for this topic the sharingon is awakened by protecting a death of someone close to you mangekyou sharingan is meant for evil as in you need to kill the person close to you just an idea

About MS... Itachi said that for the awaken MS you must to kill closest friend, but Kakashi showed, that this action isn´t neccesary to awaken MS but it´s faster way then train it like kakashi....I wonder sasuke has MS which don´t killing him like Itachi´s... and poor kakashi I read in naruto wiikia, that kakashi knows the danger of much use of MS.
Normal Sharingan.... Obito case: I can see clearly here.... Obito was´t able to awaken Sharingan, because he was relativeli in safe and only Kakashi always saved him so Obito can´t awaken Sharingan until Kakashi was in problem.
