I agree, if it is Itachi and not Pein's kekkei genkai, that Sasuke would be the one to start the fight.. as I don't recall Itachi ever starting one with Sasuke.. or anyone else for that matter.. unless you include that 30% shape-shifting clone, I suppose, and the annihilation of his entire clan, and the killing of his best friend.. alright, I just don't recall his starting a fight with Sasuke..

I also don't recall a time when Sasuke was ever willing to just chat with Itachi, either, but the total look of surprise on his face is a first.. unless you count the time he found the entire clan dead and Itachi standing over the bodies of his parents.. which is to be expected, I suppose..

This encounter between Itachi and Sasuke is intriguing.. as was the encounter between Itachi and Naruto.. 'just want to talk with you'.. gaahhh.. too many hanging moments..

Yeah, but why the surprised look on his face, right? I mean, he just wants to kill Itachi now, why the hell should he be surprised if he sees him. Shouldn't he be... happy or something? Lol.

What does Itachi want with Naruto??? What are they supposed to talk about??? GAH! Oh, c'mon! What are we waiting for here, New Year? I just want to get through this week so I could read the manga.

This is depressing.

Yea, I can't see Itachi giving Naruto pointers on survival, but.. that could actually be his plan.. the curiosity is rising soooooo much and I don't foresee us finding out any time soon..

I'm with you alllllll the way.. this waiting is very depressing.. already the longest week in my life and it's only Monday (here).. 4 more days.. *sigh*

I think the fact that Sasuke didn't flare up is because he's matured.

From what we've seen so far, Itachi and Kakashi are the ONLY ones with Mangakan Sharingan. Maybe Sasuke is saving his? We'll see soon I guess.

Yeah, perhaps. But Sasuke actually surprised to see his brother? That's a little superficial for me.

yeah, i agree with Renjamin2, i think Sasuke is More Mature Now.. thinking first before charging..(unlike naruto) although sasuke really was using brains more than brawn before he trained with orochimaru... now he's just more composed of himself...

i hope What Itachi wanted to talk about with Naruto was he wanted to tell Naruto to get out because Pein's coming for him.. i hope itachi sensed the "other" plans/motives of Tobi and would put a fight against the other akatsuki members...

Sasuke has had alot of time to put his plan together.. going after 3 specific people to join him.. pretty thorough thought on his part, which would be a fair sign of maturity. But I don't think that really explains the look of 'surprise' on his face, tho. Not charging after Itachi is one thing, but be surprised to see him???

Most of us already surmised that Itachi probably has a plan of his own, knowing that he's been lied to by his fellow organization. Maybe at least explaining to Naruto what Akatsuki's true agenda is as far as Naruto is concerned or disclosing to 'us' the true identity of Naruto's father..

But even telling Naruto about Pein, and possibly his kekkei genkai, would be awesome.

After giving this alot of thought.. nothing else seems to be able to penetrate my mind because this is soooo exciting.. I feel that Itachi is basically a decent guy underneath the hard-ass shell. I've always felt that he kept Sasuke alive out of love. He could have killed Sasuke, being the one closest to him, instead of his best friend who was 'like a brother' to him, in order to gain the mangekyou. Itachi also left Sasuke alive again, when he slaughtered the entire Uchiha clan.

So the look of surprise on Sasuke's face, who is currently in sharingan mode, may be due to..

1) his surprise that Itachi would actually be right in front him and would speak first, knowing that Sasuke is out looking for him, and
2) because, and we won't find out until we see the anime, there is something in Itachi's voice that tells Sasuke this is
A) not a chance encounter, and
B) there is something to be discussed.

As for the conversation between Itachi and Naruto, it could be that Itachi is the one to be leaking the info to Jiraiya. Itachi may very well be aware that Madara is still alive, or at least has a basic assumption. And I can't see that Itachi would not know that Tobi/Madara was in charge the whole time.

I also think.. yea, I've done alot these past several days.. :sigh:.. that Itachi did not necessarily want a personal avenger out of Sasuke, as much as wanting Sasuke to become strong enough to defeat Madara.. assuming Madara is still alive.

And this brings me back to the "3" mangekyou users that Itachi referred to when telling Sasuke that he would be the third if he killed his best friend. Kakashi didn't have it.. Tobi, if he is Obito, or even Madara, would have to be the 3rd one..

Now.. I also can't see that Kishimoto would somehow bring about that the one-eyed Tobi would be Madara, unless Madara is using Obito's body as a 'container', since it seems that someone in Akatsuki is quite capable of body possession.

Anyway, just some thoughts that sort of snapped together while patiently awaiting chapter 367.. 2 more days..

didn't kakashi have the mangekyu already?

but either way, if the rumors would be true, a true uchiha blooded mangekyou sharingan user would still be needed for whatever itachi is planning..
