Who is the greatest video game villian of all time?

For me the coolest villian has to be Vergil of Devil May Cry 3. He just makes Dante look weak through the entire game up until their final battle.

good question... I'm gonna answer this as the coolest villains, as opposed to the most memorable (in which case Bowser, Ganon, Donkey Kong, Mother Brain, Mike Tyson, and others would have to be mentioned). In some order:

1. Albert Wesker (Resident Evil)
2. Kefka (Final Fantasy VI) - best villain for any individual game, but Wesker has the whole franchise
3. Psycho Mantis (Metal Gear Solid)
4. Lavos (Chrono Trigger)
5. Pyramid Head (Silent Hill II... terrifying)
6. Darth Malak (Knights Of The Old Republic)
7. SHODAN (System Shock)

The same. I think thats obvious, keeping mind my username. Vergil has all the makings of an excellent villain. He had power, he had the mind set, plain and composed and he is the most stable. The only villain that can be related to him and his persona is Sephiroth. They both have so much in common that i can't differentiate between them except their physical features.

maybe because I'm overmedicated right now and therefore irritable (I'm pretty sick) or maybe it's because every one here overrates Final Fantasy VII, but something is annoying me and I have to ask... WHAT IS WITH THE INFATUATION OF SEPHIROTH?? Seriously, you people realize he was unconscious for 2/3 of the game, right? He has an overly complicated origin that no one can completely understand. He has a theme song that, when translated, is absolute nonsense. Just because of one cool weapon and one cool scene (burning Nibelheim) everyone thinks he's the greatest thing to ever hit video games? For the love of God, I can't figure it out.
