Already a thread here: FFXIII !!!

I'm kind of excited for this game... the gameplay footage looks sick, as does the trailer (Final Fantasy XIII Video Game, TGS 09: Official US Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com), but I dont' like that they seemed to have abandoned the gambit system. I thought that sped up the gameplay nicely. It also looks to have romance as an integral part of the theme, which doesn't really vibe well with me (X and VIII were my least favorite of all of them, and they were also the most romantic... don't think it's a coincidence).

As for my favorites, I could never say officially, as it kind of changes depending on which one I've played most recently. So I typically break them down into tiers:

Tier 1

VI - gun to my head, best one
IX - best characters
XII - best gameplay... gambit system and license board were awesome, and hunts were the best side quest by FAR
VII - we all know about it
Crisis Core - I played a lot of the side FF games, but this is the only one I'll include because it was great. Zack might be the best main character

Tier 2

IV - played it again recently. Didn't realize how ridiculous the plot was for this game, so I bumped it to Tier 2 (the moon? seriously?)
V - paced poorly
III - job system was a nice touch, but seemed rough around the edges
I - classic, but doesn't hold up well (no choice, too difficult, etc.)

Tier 3

VIII - unlikeable characters
II - least interesting characters and nothing really grabbed me
X - don't get me started...

No one even bothered to mention the release date for the game yet on this site?
The Game has just been released in Japan today, well their today is my tomorrow but you guys should get what I mean. While The European and North American release is scheduled for release on March 9, 2010.

I'm psyched for this game! even though my birthday is only a few weeks after the release date, I just won't be able to wait, and must get it day one!

Yeah... I just think of all the times the release date was pushed back. This game has reached my seconded longest in my wait list (No such thing btw, just made it now). Only beat by Final Fantasy Versus XIII and followed by Zelda Twilight princess,

it's not close to Twilight Princess... not by a long shot.

Heck, it's not even close to FFXII yet

I'm saying what it felt like to me, lol, not even comparing actual waits since first announcements. Also I never really waited for XII. I just went to Game Stop one day and was like, "Hey, Final Fantasy! Sounds good to me, and a Colectors edition... sweet!"

Wired seems to be disappointed with the game..link

"With precious few exceptions, the first 17 hours go like this: battle, movie, repeat. There are almost no towns, nonplayable characters to chat up, extra side missions, hidden sequences, fancy equipment to save up for and buy, or reasons to run around and grind enemies for extra level-ups. Heck, there’s no need to even wonder what to do next.

When I referred to previous Final Fantasy games as being “linear,” I was at least speaking metaphorically. Final Fantasy XIII is a straight line. Every level is one long Hallway of Death, and you run down its interminable length, never moving left or right, always running forward. There is always only one thing to do next, and it is always either fight a short battle or watch a long movie...

That may sound like very simple gameplay, and for a great deal of the game’s first half, it is. Most of my time in Final Fantasy XIII spent not watching movies was just jamming on the ol’ X button for hours on end, occasionally shifting Paradigms, confident that the automated battle system wouldn’t let me down.

If I ever slacked off a little, the damage was never permanent: If you die, you start right back on the screen before the battle, with no penalty. Heck, if things ain’t going right, you can just choose to restart the battle before you kick the bucket. Oh, and you’re automatically healed to full strength after each battle."

will still be getting it regardless if it get good or bad reviews

every FF game gets people crying at first. I remember people flipping out about the gambit system in XII, but I thought it was the best development in the series since the job system.

Anyway, these are not new developments. Linearity is common in Final Fantasy games, at least early on. VII is the staple of the new generation of Final Fantasy games. What were the side quests? We had a couple optional levels (which were late in the game), the optional super bosses (which weren't until disc 3), and the chocobo breeding (also relatively late). Who cares if you have to play linearly for 17 hours?

And no towns? X didn't have a lot of towns either. It happens.

But I'm a bit upset with the apparent dungeon design. Not that Final Fantasy ever had Zelda-level dungeons, but there were always some hidden treasures or something to mix things up. That's quite a bummer.

I'm still getting this game right away, and I'm gonna love the crap out of it.

I'd have to say I like the game so far. Though I must admit there are quite a few things they could have done at least a little differently.
