Default TOONAMI - 09-23-2008

I didn't see this post anywhere else but if I overlooked it please do your thing mods.

I use to watch toonami all the time when I was younger, it was the tv block that introduced me to anime. It started off with the shows DBZ, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, and Thunder Cats. But over the years some how Cartoon Network some how managed to make it suck. Finally I got were I didn't watch it anymore. But browsing through Youtube the other day brought the end of toonami to my attention.

Now I think they could have probably got their ratings back if they had just returned it to old days, but instead they chose to end it after nearly 11 years running.

Actually it just happened this past weekend. Sept. 20, 2008. Nice to see someone remembers the old days as well ( wait.. did I just refer to myself as old...) When it first came out I believe Moltar, the old villian from space ghost use to host it.

Toonami was great, but once Adult Swim came in and was able to bring more mature anime without the brutal censorship Toonami was forced to employ (it came on during the day, not at night), Toonami became irrelevane as an avenue for anime. Last I checked, I *think* it was airing some more childish anime (Mar, Pokemon, Prince of Tennis at one point) and still was censoring some other anime (Naruto, One Piece). Again, Adult Swim really took the air out of its sails when it came to American anime... as did other channels (Sci-Fi, IFC, other premium channels lik STARZ Edge) since they were able to give us uncut shows. Toonami will always have a place in my heart though.

True, but there was at one time, before the adult swim a midnight run of Toonami that played uncut episodes of animes such as DBZ, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Big O, and Inuyasha. Adult Swim just took over doing all this.

Man I am gonna miss Toonami...I have so many good memories sitting in front of the TV watching all my favorite shows. TV has truly lost something great...=[

Toonami 1997-2008

PS- Just in case you were wondering Toonami started as a late show block and was hosted by Space Ghost and the producer was Moltar

Wow I found out something I never knew. The man behind voice Tom all these years on Toonami was Steven Blum , the voice actor of Spike on Cowboy Bebop. All these years and I never noticed.

Oh my gawd. The old days... I used to watch everything there with my brother... Like Gundam Seed, Beyblade, Pokemon... Err-- Crushgear... Yes, it's a little embrassing since I was addicted to it when I was 9 or 10.
