well seeing as light had the deathnote and could control peoples time of death why did he simply not write his own name in the book and write that he dies peacefully in his sleep at one hundred as the god of his new world

and if he were able to do that why would he not gladly expend have his life force for the shinigami eyes and just write his own death as explained above after he got the eyes?

that is an interesting idea ,maybe he isn't allowed to write his own name ,or even he hoped to lived more than that .

I'm not sure about this but didnt it say somewhere that the commanded death time had to be during a 21 day limit, so he couldnt do 50 years from then.. I'm not to sure though.

i just remembered sth,ryuk told light that the only one who will write light's name on his death note will be ryuk ,so maybe that even if light wrote his own name it won't work

So the answer is: He cant write his own name, or there was a 21 days rule limit.

Ryuuk kind of explained this Loop Hole actually. Right at the end of the series, Ryuuk told Light that he would be the one who writes his name in his Death Note. So it appears that the Shinigami who owns a humans Death Note is the one who determines when that human will die, unless his name is written by another Death Note user in another Death Note. Also, Light wouldn't do the eye deal, he was too much of a coward. Hence he lost. The fear of his own death defeated him in the end.

I had the same thought myself. Light planned EVERYTHING but his own death. Had he planned for his Death, he might have succeeded. He was too much of a coward to write his own name in his Death Note anyways.

Well wasn't it said that only death gods get their life extended by killing humans and humans killing humans not. Btw was it not also said that you can't kill anyone past his lifespan so if Light's lifespan was say 50 years he cant be killed by another death note saying he'll die in 51 years? The Death Note's purpose was to shorten life it cant' lenghten it.

that is an perfect explanation and totally fits ,so that explains that there is no loophole here
