Soifon took the battle to them, and I am glad that Ikkaku got his ass chewed out. He IS a spoiled brat. He might not have lost the pillar if he used his Bankai. Besides, even if he used bankai, does that automaticly make him a captain?

^ no, it doesn't. It just makes him qualified to be a captain. Aside from having bankai, you need to be recommended for the position by at least two captains (if my memory serves me right) and pass the test given to you by Yamamoto and two other captains.

Having three of the Thirteen Protection Squads captain-less, there might be a possibility that he might get asked to take up a spot. But... so far, that is unlikely, in my opinion because Ikkaku has still have a lot to learn in terms of battles and such, and perfect his bankai, too.

I agree with you. But then why does he not want anyone to know about him acheiving bankai? I don't remember his reason.

I am still glad that they are starting the big fight, now for Ichigo and the others to get there, it will be good.

The reason he hides his Bankai is because he wants nothing more than to serve under Kenpachi in the 11th Division. If he were to display his Bankai in front of Yammamoto, then he would most likely be asked to take the Captains Proficiency test. He would have no problem getting recommended by 3 Captains, and getting the approval by 4 others. Just having a Bankai more or less qualifies you for the Captain's proficiency test.

If they were to find out he did have a Bankai, they would most likely ask him to take the test, forcing him to leave the 11th Division. The only reason Ikkaku became a Shinigami was to serve in the 11th Division. Hence he hid his Bankai when he was in battle in front of the Captain Commander.

That's his logic, but the funny thing is, I don't agree with him. Renji has a bankai and is probably more respected amongst the Shinigami captains, and they never asked him to be a captain. I know Ikkaku is stronger and has had it longer, but he still has a lot to learn about how to use it. Plus, as immature as he is, I don't think they'd even ask him to be a captain. As Iba pointed out, he's been jeopardizing Soul Society because of his selfishness. There's no way he's capable of being a captain, and I'm sure the other captains see his flaws and are aware of it.

Hisagi is an acting captain not necessarily because of his power, but because of his disposition and his sense of responsibility. Ikkaku, as he is now, would never be asked to fill a captain's seat. He's just too ego-centric to realize this.

Agreed, he doesn't have the leadership skills necessary to become a Captain, however Soul Society isn't in a position to be picky. As for Renji, do you think any of the other Captains are aware of his Bankai other than Hitsugaya and Byakuya? He's had his Bankai for an even shorter time than Ikkaku has had his. So perhaps his is still some what of a secret from Yama as well.

Either way, perhaps Yamamoto has some other more.... experienced Shinigami in mind for the Captain's positions. Perhaps people that used to be Captains... hint hint lol. He has literally 4 Captains stationed in the Living Realm. Their official reintegration into the Gotei 13 may just be delayed until after the Aizen situation is over. He kind of needs some of his forces spread out among the different realms anyways. It may be his intention to fool Aizen that the other 4 Captains have no alliance with Soul Society anymore. Just thoughts though, it's just strange that Yamamoto would leave 3 open spots in his Protection Squads when there isn't even a Central 46 Chambers anymore. He has to have something planned, and something he's been planning for a long time. Remember, Yamamoto had nothing to do with the exile of any of his Captains.

The battles thus far have been a lot like a chess match. Aizen moves a piece, then Yama moves a piece. It's just a matter of time before they stop moving pawns and start moving some power pieces.

I dont think this is the real battle just yet it just a battle btween shinigamis and the espada top3 subornates.

The real battle is captains vs top 3 espdada ore vaizards ofcourse.
And I loved t6he way that Fracion of baragan got owned by Konumamaru(ore something)

It was more buildup. But it set up all of the fights perfectly. I love the talk between Shunsui and Stark. "That suits me perfectly! But I can't." And I'm excited to see Matsumoto fight all three of the fraccion herself. Hitsugaya vs. Halibel intrigues me because it seems the oddest out of the matches.

This chapter shows Stark's loyalty to Barragan/Aizen, since he didn't want to fight at full power(sounds like Ikkaku). I also love when Soi Fon tells Omaeda that maybe he'll die.
