This question has been bugging me for a while. Why did Rukia go to Urahara in the living world? He was banished from SS, so why would a devout member of SS go to someone who was banned from SS.

Is it possible that Ukitake kept in touch with him and told her about his shop? I mean, he was also getting supplies from somewhere in SS, and we all know that he probably made some connections in those 9 years he was captain.

from what I can remember, it was an underground store that some of the shinigami's would sneak off to to get stuff.

I remember one of them sayting that he was so handsome and someone had told him of a underground place to go to get contacts because he would look better in contacts instead of glasses. And the place they were talking about was Urahara's store, he called him Mr. U.

So it is very possible that she knew about it through word of mouth from other shinigami's.

i think she might have heard about it from other shinigamis,but maybe even if he was banished he is kind of used as a reference point to the shinigamis in the real world,plus don't forget that rukia knew that what she was doing was illegal in SS,and so she needed an underground person like urahara to help her ,cause she knew what was going to happen to her in SS

Ah yes, excellent question! You might also be wondering why Hitsugaya, Matsumoto, Ikkaku and Ayasegawa all convened at Urahara's shop at the beginning of the Arrancar arc.

My best explanation goes as follows:

Urahara was banished from Soul Society by the Central 46 chambers. If you paid attention, Yamamoto wasn't even present during his trial/ sentencing. Perhaps Yamamoto still had faith that Urahara was not guilty of the crimes he was accused of, and was probably also suspicious himself of the young Sousuke Aizen. If this were true, then perhaps Yamamoto made sure that there was some kind of liaison officer that kept in touch with Urahara after his exile. Also, it shouldn't be too hard for SS to find someone who has a Senkaimon leading directly to his basement. So it was probably no secret to SS of Urahara's whereabouts. It was the Vizard who needed a barrier, and had to hide themselves from both SS and Hollows.

So, Perhaps it's because Yamamoto had faith in Urahara, and allowed his Officers to seek shelter and supplies at the Urahara shop. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but that is the best explanation I can give you for now.

The part during the arrancar arc makes sense though, because that was after everyone knew of Aizen's betrayal. And the captains knew that Urahara was actually on the good side at that time 100ish years ago.

well thats all good but if we remember correctly yourichi came into the central 46 chamber and busted urahara & tenssai out so even though his punishment was 2 b banished on earth i dont think it was ever officially carried out so maybe by some kind of technicality hes like a pending case so thats y theyre able 2 keep contact with him or or maybe their are no rule saying that shinigami cant communicate with exile members of SS as long as its outside of where that person was banished thus he serves as sort a safe house 4 shinigami on earth ....well those who know 2 seek him

Yoruichi did come to get him, but after Ichigo and crew left to rescue Rukia, Urahara went to touch the Senkaimon gate and was zapped by it, so the punishment was carried out.

All Yoruichi really did to help Urahara was prevent him from having his powers taken from him. It's the Vizards whose ass she really saved. They were going to be executed as Hollows.

But yeah, that's a good way to think of it. He's banished from Soul Society, but is still allowed to stay in contact.

Wait a minute.....were they going to take his powers away from him? I do remember them going to put him and Tessai in prison or something like that. Would that have meant taking away their ablities too?

Pretty much. They would've no longer have been able to take the form of a Shinigami or use any of their reiatsu (kidou, demon arts etc.) I assume their Zanpakutos would've been destroyed or confiscated, and they would have been sent to live in the living realm to live as humans until they lived their life span.
