ok well i dont think they work or worked together... why?

well because aizens goals are pure selfish so there is no place for a partner....
for urahara its hard to say i dont think he did those research on rukongai citizens (remember the part where someone says it wont work on ordinary souls i think it was aizen thats why he tested it(the substance) on stronger souls) urahra wouldnt use his research in such a way ofc hes a scientist but i doubt he uses such ways (he tested his bankai puppet thing on his own too not with someone else)

aizen said 'you're just the man I thought you were, I'm glad you came here tonight' because he is really glad urahara is here.. urahara is his hope, aizen was unable to create a hybrid by now but this substance he most likely stole from urahara worked pretty well and he hopes that urahara reveals a ways to save shinji and the others (--->hogyouku)

i agree with zangetsuclan, urahara isn't the type who let someone steals his research he is very careful, besides he knew his reseach is illegal which gives him more reason to hide it,also that substance on the sword theory never seemed true to me,i still believe it is related to the location of the hit than a certain substance on the sword,so i too see it doubtable

If anything, Urahara and Aizen are two men searching for the same thing, but with different intentions. Urahara seeks power to help others and to better himself as a person, while Aizen seeks power for his own self-gain and to rule over others. It's a classic plot line, Good vs. Evil.

Much like Full Metal Alchemist, there were many who sought the power of the Philosophers Stone. Some wanted it for good, others wanted it for evil. In this instance, the Hougyuku is the Philosophers Stone. Aizen mis-read Urahara, he's not in any way the man that he thinks he is. Yes, he has tinkered with the dark side, but only to make light out of darkness.

i never thought of it this way, good example btw,but like in the FMA at some point the good and evil were working together for that goal, but then they go different ways when the found their different intentions, using your same example(ed joined the army to reach his goal),so that proves that my theory is possible

Well I doubt that Aizen cared about shinji and the others, I think it meant (that is if they were not working together) it was proof to Aizen that Urahara is capable of other things that can be of use to him. And Aizen is selfish, I believe that is true, but he is smart enough to play a captain that cared about everyone, pretend to be innocent. That tells me he is smart enough to work with someone that he feels will help him reach his own goals. It is obvious he wanted more power, and if learned of the Hougyoku thru the grapevine, then he is capible of pretending to help Urahara.

Like I said in the 98 Thread, I think it is very possible that Aizen and Urahara were working together. Like it has been stated many times here, two men trying to reach the same goal for different reasons. Urahara's VC goes out to that location where the "test" or attack will happen. Urahara realizes what he will be doing and can't go along with it. Hence Aizen saying "You are the man I thought you were" meaning that all along Aizen knew that at some point Urahara would not be able to push any deeper into this evil plot.

Just do it, I don’t like it either! Now, we head towards the battlefield! Believe, and our blades will not break! Believe, and our hearts will not bend! Though the roads we have take may be different but our iron hearts will beat as one! Swear, that even if earth torn asunder, we will live and return here once again!

it seems we are both thinking of the same thing, since as i said on 98 thread ,your ideas are proving mine ,i mean your idea of urahara leaving the plot because of his vice, completes the missing link in the theory i stated ,in other words this is the point where urahara comes back to his senses.this theory actually explains alot of the ununderstandable speeches the characters made.thx again

I thought this at first but after the last chapter i really don't think so they're rivals and if soul society has a chance is because of Urahara, maybe it was his project at first and Aizen copied or stole it but i don't think they're working together he has done much to sabotage his plans...

Rivals they may have been.. However haven't you heard the saying "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"? Aizen seems like the kind of person who would practice that don't you think?
