I think it may have worked....BUt i still dont think they are out of hot water yet. Someone is gonna get killed by Aizen. I was hoping it would have been Shinji but freaking that captain saved him. Even if they defeat the espadas, they still will gonna have to go thru Aizen samaaaaaaaa.:-)
It actually shows how weak the shinigami are. if this was a real and actually battle,. the shinigami would have been pwned...but barrigan was a bad general and although he is powerful does not know a thing about military operations....
if they were smart, they would have said the hell with the traditional fighting...had 2 of the espadas worked together, they could have easily owned ther Gotie...Plus Aizen didnt really do a thing yet..:-(

Which shows why the Espada were defeated. They overstimated their own powers, and understimated their enemies', which is a fatal mistake in any war. They thought they could eliminate the Gotei 13 alone, each of them, and look where most of them are now, dead and buried.

I have to wonder though, didn't they say that Hollows killed by Zanpakutos go to Soul Society? Would any of the Espada/Arrancar go there? Would any of them get to the shinigami rank?
Imagine Stark dying, going to SS and get to Captain rank in Gotei 13, talk about irony. :P

tough to say... it's not like the Shinigami took the fight that seriously, either. Kyoraku and Ukitake were goofing off. Lord knows what Yama is doing, but he didn't fight any Espada. It's tough to say which side is actually stronger, because both of them are fighting illogically for the sake of the story.

I think the soul purification bit has been pushed to the background. Who knows what happens to Espada when they die. Logically speaking, it's hard to say, because they're not 1 soul. They've presumably consumed many souls to evolve, which makes it difficult to purify them, because they can't be judged. Remember, a zanpakutou only purifies a soul and sends it to SS if that person is good... if the person lived an evil life, they go to hell. But if a hollow evolves and becomes a conglomerate of hundreds of other souls, how are they judged? Maybe they're all broken up and judged individually, which means Stark wouldn't be recognizable? I have no idea.

well said, this set up perfectly points out a HUGE theme in bleach and tons of other manga, teamwork/love/freindship will always kick some serious but and a with a little luck you can bet on the good guys winning.

They're purified just the same as any other Hollow. All the souls within are purified and separated and sent to Soul Society. A soul going to hell is actually rare. Only people who were evil when they were living are sent to hell, it doesn't matter what the soul did after they became a Hollow, the purification cleanses them of their deeds after death. So most likely, all of the Espada will end up in Soul Society. They regain their personality as they were as a human, and probably lose all memory of ever being a Hollow, they would lose all their reiryoku gained from devouring other souls, so they may not even be as powerful as they were when they were Adjuchas.... they would just be a regular old soul, and have to re-evolve as such.

The biggest error I've seen so far on Tites behalf is the fact that in appearance, a regular Hollow and an Adjuchas look basically the same. We saw a demi-hollow turn into a regular Hollow, and it looked like an Adjuchas. Technically, a regular Hollow should lack intelligence, yet we've seen regular Hollows that maintained high intelligence (ex: Grand Fisher (Should've technically been an Adjuchas due to absorbing a lot of human souls, and Shrieker who also absorbed a ton of human souls.) they should've been classified as a different type of Hollow, trying to evolve in a different way.

Usually Hollows try to evolve within Hueco Mundo, while Grand Fisher and Shrieker appeared to be trying to evolve outside of Hueco Mundo. I also assume that they skipped the whole Gillian process and went right to Adjuchas, as when Grand Fishers mask was removed, he appeared as an Adjuchas class Arrancar did, but maintained a good deal of his Hollow appearance. They also maintained their intelligence. A Hollow is supposed to turn into a Menos, then a Gillian (Menos Grande), then Adjuchas, then Vasto Lorde... It appeared they went from Hollow to Adjuchas in appearance... it's very confusing, and honestly Tite "F'd" that one up. They should have lost their intelligence after absorbing that many souls, and turned into Gillians. Though for some reason, they didn't.

yeah the bold was kind of my point... they wouldn't be recognizable, because the Ulquiorra and Stark we know are most likely comprised of many different souls. And as you said, the souls are separated before they are judged (either to enter SS or hell). So, the Espada we're familiar with can't end up in Soul Society, but some of the souls that comprised them could.

And I'm with you on the confusion of the hollow evolution. It got way too convoluted. I don't think Tite really cares about it, to be honest. Sometimes, he just lazily contradicts himself. Like here, when Shawlong blatantly says that Grimmjow is the only one who can become a Vasto Lorde of the group, and the rest have to remain Adjucas, so he asked Grimmjow to eat them and further his evolution, because their evolution had stopped at the Adjucas level: Bleach 285 page 09 |

Yet here, when Shawlong and the rest die, Aizen writes it off as insignificant because they were only Gillians: Bleach 213 page 19 |

It's a mess.

It is a possibility that Grand Fisher was an Adjuchas level hollow when we saw him. We based that he is hollow from what Rukia said and there is a good possibility that she was wrong. It's possible from absorbing all the human souls he evolved into a Adjuchas level Hollow or and advanced Hollow that Tite never full explained.
But nonetheless, I agree with you that Tite did not explain this fully.
