This is interesting stuff. I was doing a bit of research about Shinji for another thread, and noticed he said some interesting things about the Hogyoku and Aizen. I found the manga chapter now (217), and here is the quote (this occurred after Ichigo said he didn't have time to waste on Hiyori's machine):

"Don't have the time, huh? This coming from the guy who doesn't even know how long it takes to awaken the Hogyoku... We know about the Hogyoku, the Arrancar, and Aizen Sosuke. We've known it all. Long, long before you jumped on the stage."

So that implies 2 things. First, Shinji seems to know how long it takes the Hogyoku to awaken. I know some people felt that the Hogyoku might have had nothing to do the Vizards (in another thread, I remember people arguing that people become Vizards the way Ichigo did, not necessarily through the Hogyoku) and perhaps it was never used. But also (and to tie in with the spoilers) he said that he knew about the Arrancar and Aizen "long before you (Ichigo) jumped on the stage." I think that implies that he had a direct relationship with Aizen while in Soul Society, because no one in SS knew Aizen was evil, but apparently Shinji knew about his relationship with the Arrancar before Ichigo arrived (hence, before he stole the Hogyoku). Oddly enough, I was about to start a thread about that, but I guess I don't have to now.

The question is though, were they Vizards back then? Or did they become Vizards after they left Soul Society? Is the Hougyuku the reason they left? It's apparant now that a whole lot of people left with Urahara and Isshin, what made them all leave? More questions with no answers

Yeah, that's kind of the topic I was gonna start the thread about, but there's no need nwo. I assume they became Vizards then, because Shinji implies he knows how long the Hogyoku took to awaken, but there's just way too much to speculate on, I don't want to open that can of worms. Maybe after tomorrow I'll throw up some theories. I don't want to theorize just to look like an ass after the new chapter is released.

lol same here. I kinda already read the chapter, I just didn't see the chapter yet, so I'll hold off till I see the real deal before I discuss it.

well to ur questions, they did became Vizards after SS because had they been vizards in SS, Yama-jii would have noticed the change considering the experience he has in such matter. and i don't think they left because of the Hougyoku, they wanted to gain more powers as i think, Urahara said.
