Default Please help me rediscover my love for Bleach! - Oct. 29th, 2009, 10:37 PM

Hi everyone!

Lately I've been getting more and more frustrated watching/reading bleach. It seems there is hardly any substance in the storyline and it's just one fight after the other with just more and more arrancar/espada popping out every episode. The storyline so far hardly links with anything in the early storyline, it's almost like watching fillers. Also there are many things which I don't understand for example: when Ichigo first went to soul society to rescue Rukia, he fought Kenpachi without the eye patch and even though he didn't have Hollow powers or bankai back then, he was pretty much fighting on par with Kenpachi. Then the story shows nothing of Kenpachi's strength development and suddenly when Ichigo was fighting that espada with heaps of arms (sorry forgot name) after he beat Grimmjaw, he got his arse kicked badly even with hollow and bankai. Now, Kenpachi comes along and beats him comprehensively? Where was this hidden power? If Ichigo had bankai and hollow powers when he first fought Kenpachi, he would of killed him in a flash... The manga doesn't explain anything. I find myself now turning more and more to Naruto where there is actually a storyline and the events are connected and make somewhat sense. Can you guys give me your views on this?

Thanks
PS: sorry about the long post!

There are a lot of continuity errors, which are usually explained away with variables. If you're becoming disenchanted with it all, that's understandable. Each chapter is only 20 odd pages, and the chapters are quick reads.

To me the story is getting much better and finally starting to pick up. However, with this being a Shonen Jump manga, it's moving at a snails pace.

My suggestion would be to stop reading the chapters each week, and start reading them monthly (Yeah it's really impossible to do this for me as a mod.) That way you'll be getting 4 chapters at a time, and the pace might be more to your liking. I really wished KT would drop SJ and go to a monthly distributor, however when it comes to manga, SJ is like the Holy Grail. Leaving SJ would be a negative thing for his career.

Just be thankful Bleach is consistent, even if it's not great. We don't have a Hunter X Hunter or Berserk situation.

A couple chapters ago, Berserk announced it's 20th anniversary. That is a manga that is supposed to be bi-weekly, so 20 continuous years could yield up to 520 chapters. Obviously, that's unreasonable (everyone needs a break), but the 20th anniversary issue of Berserk was only chapter 308. Simple math shows that Miura was on some kind of break for an equivalent of 212 chapters. Released bi-weekly, 212 chapters is the equivalent of 424 weeks, which is over 8 years! So Berserk has been around for 20 yaers, but 40% of that time, Miura has done nothing.

So yes, Bleach has problems, but at least we know it's gonna be there ever Friday, and we should be thankful for that.

^^This. I've gone back and watched the old SS arc twice now just to see if there was anything I haven't noticed yet and picked up on a couple things. I agree though...the continuity problems with this anime are so very bad. My biggest complaint is mainly the fact that they keep jumping from then to now to somewhere in between, to before "then" and after "now" and somewhere in between blah blah blah...it's just frustrating to keep up sometimes.

I like going back and watching some of the older episodes from the SS arc. Ichigo seemed so overpowered it was amazing.
I like going back and analyzing the bits of info i might have overlooked which could shed light on current events.

I would say to drop it and then go pick it up again when you think you are missing Bleach...did it once when that crappy Bounto arc was going on...but my good dose is manga. When I'm not feeling like it, I go read the manga. But I guess you feel a downer from the manga version too. So I would say listen to Dr. Gregory Mushiro, the Head of the Bleachnostic team of BN....he is the one with the good theories xD

To be honest, it's pretty easy to get a little...frustrated with bleach right now(manga included) when we've been flipping between hueco mundo and fake karakura town for the better part of a year. They really should have planned this better and made it a bit shorter...it is starting to get tedious.
