Not really. It's a shinigami (death god) who can kill people by writing their names in the Death Note. The one that follows the boy is named Ryuk if you mean Yagami Light by the boy.

i just starting watching this anime. it is really good. the main charcter is evil because he wants to kill all criminals. that they probably deserve it but he can't decide who lives and who dies.
