There's a difference because with games you actually influence what happens and in some cases can make things more violent (ex: wreaking havoc on the streets of Liberty City). And trust me, people HAVE tried to blame other media, but video games are the primary target because of the control the user has, as well as an archaic belief that video games are geared towards children (which is utter nonsense, but people detached from the gaming community still believe that).

Anyway if you are stupid enough to be influenced by video games you are a hopeless retard that deserves to go and die doing stupid things...
Plus, why do you think each game has a damned rating!!! The rating system is there for a damned reason... to keep impressionable kids away from games that would influence them in the wrong way... but if the parents keep disregarding these simple guidelines then they themselves are to blame for their kids getting f*ucked up in the head and doing something stupid and violent... so all in all it is the parents fault not the games...
and in case you want to argue about the adults that do the stupid shit refer to my comment about retards that I made earlier...

I'm not talking about insanity pleas... I'm talking about games influencing behavior, and there is certainly basis for that (although, there isn't a consensus on the magnitude of the increased aggression amongst behavioral psychologists). But you're right, it's not a reason to condemn game makers, because people need to be more responsible about their choice of entertainment. I won't use the word "retard" but there are kids out there who are clearly influenced by the games they play. It's not the game's fault... as I said above, video games are not exclusively for children any more. Parents need to know the kind of child they have. I'm not saying they have to police everything, but if you have an impressionable child, you have to make sure he's not playing Hitman and thinking "Oh cool, I never knew you can kill someone that way!".
