I disagree with the majority here. I rather liked the first movie.

Although I did have a different atmosphere than most, as I went to see it while it was in theaters for two days. Going to see it at a theater was great, you had a bunch of Death Note fans and everyone who went paid money to see it and was genuniely excited about it. I went with a friend who had no prior knowledge to the Death Note series and he enjoyed himself. He though the twists were great and loved L.

Granted the casting was terrible sans L and Watari. Light was a horrible choice, his face and body structure weren't anything near what I had imagined Light to be, not to mention the hair style. And I don't think there is any excuse with how badly they messed Light's character up if they can get L so right.

I haven't seen the second movie as it hasn't come over to America in theaters yet and I'd rather not download it or anything due to laziness. Besides, I want the same atmopshere I had for the first movie when I go to see the second. My friend thought the cliff hanger was killer, and I liked explaining the subtle details in the film that he might have missed that I knew of because I had read the manga and watched the anime. Little things that I think people who are familiar with the series take for granted.

Overall, it could have been better, but I still enjoyed myself.
